Thom Rasche
Partner, Earlybird

Thom Rasche joined Earlybird as a Venture Partner in 2003 and was promoted to Partner in 2006. He is a seasoned executive in the medical device and diagnostic sectors with over 20 years of operational experience.

Since he joined Earlybird, Thom has been responsible for the medical device portfolio and for making new investments in this area. He has successfully led various financing rounds in both European and US based medical device companies before the investment in Miracor.

Thom is on the board of Zonare Medical Systems and has held various senior marketing and sales positions with Johnson & Johnson in Europe and the US. Thom Rasche holds a Degree as Diplom Kaufmann (MBA equivalent) from the University of Applied Sciences in Lüneburg, Germany, specializing in marketing and human resource management.


Marion Jung
Principal, Earlybird

Marion Jung joined Earlybird in 1999 as an Associate and was promoted to Principal in 2002.

Since joining Earlybird, Marion has been involved in building Earlybird´s portfolio in the healthcare markets in Europe and the US. With her broad international network, Marion works closely with Earlybird´s portfolio companies to help them achieve their value-creating milestones as well as being involved from Earlybird's initial investment through subsequent financing rounds and exit. These companies include Amaxa AG (Cologne) which was sold to Lonza Group Ltd. (SWX: LONN), Wilex which listed on Prime Standard Frankfurt Exchange (WL6). and Dianoema S.p.A., which listed on the Borsa Italiana (Milan: NOE.MI). Marion focuses on innovative technologies deployed in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries as well as related technologies in cleantech.

Marion joined Earlybird after her postdoctoral training in molecular biology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. She earned her PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Svante Pääbo while working on genetic peculiarities of mammalian mitochondria. She gained further research expertise in programs at Arizona State University in Phoenix, Arizona and at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.

Marion received a Dipl.- Biol. (MS equivalent) from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. She is the author of several articles that have been published in peer reviewed journals.


Joey Mason
M.D., Partner, Delta Partners


Dr Joey Mason joined Delta Partners in 2003, specialising in Life Science investments. He serves on the boards of Genable Technologies Ltd, Glysure Ltd, Heartscape Technologies, Inc., Miracor Medical Systems GmbH and SpineGuard SA. Having trained as a doctor, Joey spent five years as an investment banker in the Health Care market with Morgan Stanley International and Technomark in London. From 1995 until 1999 he was Director of Corporate Development at Biotrin Holdings plc, an Irish biotechnology company backed by Delta Partners and other VCs.  In 2000 he co-founded and managed Eumom Ltd, a marketing services business which operates websites for pregnant women in Germany, Ireland, Switzerland and the UK. He is a director of Eumom Marketing Ltd. A medical graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, he is a Fellow of the RSA.


Werner Mohl
Founder & Chief Scientific Advisor
Prof. DDr., University of Vienna, Austria


Prof. Mohl is the driver and innovator behind the PICSO® concept and is a long term academic Professor of cardiac surgery at the Medical University of Vienna. Active in patient care, teaching and research of coronary hemodynamics, cardiac regeneration and cardioprotection he also serves as Chief Scientific Advisor on a consulting basis for Miracor. He holds a medical degree and a PhD from the University of Vienna, Austria.


Jon H. Hoem
CEO, MSc

Jon joined Miracor in May 2008 with 20 years experience in advanced medical device development and international sales&marketing in cardiology and cardiac surgery. For more details read under team.
