| 18/10/08 | Miracor presents posters during the Cleveland Clinic Heart Failure Conference. During the current conference 21st Century Treatment of Heart Failure at the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, OH, USA), Prof. Werner Mohl is presenting two posters on the PICSOTM technology Miracor is developing. The poster on “PICSO in patients undergoing cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT): Preliminary results on safety” documents the use of the old PICSO® prototype developed by Prof. Mohl in cooperation with the Austrian Research Centers Seibersdorf (ARCS). An older PICSO® prototype catheter was used in this trial. These prototypes were used in 5 patients undergoing pacemaker implantation and PICSO® was applied for 20 minutes. The poster documents that PICSO® can be applied safely in awake patients without potentially hazardous hemodynamic reflexes. The poster “Activation of coronary venous endothelium as an impulse for myocardial regeneration” explores the potential of myocardial regeneration in preclinical models. It documents that 4 fold increase of hemeoxygenase-1 expression and a 2.5 fold increase of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were found in the border infarct zone compared to controls. Prof. Mohl said: “I am very excited to present these posters at the Cleveland Clinic. They document safety in a small series of patients which is a good indication for the safety of our clinical devices currently under development. The poster on myocardial regeneration is extremely interesting and the same effects have to be proven in a human setting.” |
